Bred to guard flocks alone on the Hungarian plains, the Kuvasz combines striking beauty with a guardian's core: brave, territorial and independent-minded, it bonds intensely to its family and judges everyone else on evidence. Well raised, it is calm, patient with its own children and unshakeably devoted — but it was never designed to take orders from strangers, or many from you.

Common questions
Is a Kuvasz a good family dog?
With its own family — including children it has been raised with — it's gentle and profoundly loyal. But it needs experienced handling, careful management with visitors, and space; it's not a first dog.
What's the difference between a Kuvasz and a Komondor?
Both are white Hungarian livestock guardians, but the Komondor wears cords while the Kuvasz has a wavy double coat. Temperament is similar: independent, territorial and serious about the job.
Can a Kuvasz live in a flat?
It's a poor fit — the breed is built for space, patrol and a clear territory. Without room and a sense of purpose, frustration tends to surface as barking and destructiveness.
