From weight to a daily bowl
01 · Start with weight
Body weight is the biggest driver of how much energy a cat needs each day — so we start there.
02 · Adjust for life stage & environment
Kittens burn far more per kilo; seniors need less. An indoor cat also burns less than one who roams and hunts outside.
03 · Get a daily portion
We turn calories into grams — cups of dry food or standard 85g cans of wet — split across meals, ready to measure out.
Feeding questions
How many meals a day?
Two to three small meals suit most adult cats. Kittens usually need three to four smaller meals through the day.
My food has different calories
This assumes about 3.75 kcal per gram of dry food, or 1 kcal per gram of wet food. Check your bag or can's kcal and adjust.
My cat is gaining or losing weight
Nudge the amount by about 10% and re-check body condition every couple of weeks. Your vet can set a healthy target weight.
Indoor or outdoor — which do I pick?
Pick indoor if your cat mostly stays inside — most pet cats today do. Pick outdoor if it roams and hunts regularly; that burns noticeably more energy.
Do treats count?
Yes — every treat and chew. Keep them under about 10% of daily calories, or portions quietly creep up.
