Why isn't the cat calculator size-adjusted like the dog one?
Because cats don't need it. Unlike dogs, where a Chihuahua and a Great Dane live wildly different lifespans, most cat breeds — from a lean Siamese to a solid Maine Coon — age and live at roughly the same rate. Vets use one curve for cats, not several.
When is my cat considered a senior?
Most vets call a cat 'mature' from around 7, 'senior' from about 11, and 'geriatric' past 15. Cats hide discomfort well, so regular check-ups matter more as that senior mark approaches, even if nothing looks wrong at home.
Why do the first two years count for so much?
A kitten goes from newborn to fully grown in about two years — reaching physical maturity and often full fertility in a fraction of the time it takes a person. That's worth about 24 human years by a cat's second birthday. After that, aging settles into a steadier rate of about four years for every one that follows.
